PRACTICA L’ANGLÈS

Marie Curie

“When I was studying, alone and poor in Paris, I lived on the joy of learning and understanding”

Getting into university and gaining scientific knowledge was not easy for women for centuries. However, last century a girl born in Poland became the most famous woman scientist in history. Over time, and overcoming all sorts of obstacles, she had extraordinary success: two Nobel prizes, one in physics and one in chemistry. When the First World War broke out (1914-1918), Marie Curie worked tirelessly so that science could help the wounded soldiers at the front. Thanks to her dedication a score of cars were adapted to carry x-ray machines.
